I&#8217;m going to be working at a small startup developing a recruitment website called <a href= \"http:\/\/www.peopleperhour.com\">www.peopleperhour.com<\/a>. I&#8217;m very excited! It certainly ticks the boxes in terms of things I wanted from my next job:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Must have:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>At the bare minimum, at least 50% of my time should be spent coding. <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Yes, they use agile development with minimal documentation.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Comparable salary to Amadeus. <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Yes.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Some involvement with Linux. <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Yes, the servers are running RedHat.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>No long periods of time away from home. <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>OK &#8211; No travelling.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Reasonable commute time (would be good if it involved some exercise, e.g. cycling). <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Borderline &#8211; I estimate 80 minutes<\/span><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"> but the train journey from Reading to Paddington is only 30 minutes so the rest should be exercise.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Not too much legacy software. I.e. No <acronym title=\"Transaction Processing Facility\">TPF<\/acronym> or the like. <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Yes.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good to have:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Five weeks holiday per year + Not too ridiculous hours + hardly any weekends. <span style=\"color: red;\"><strong>No &#8211; This project is going to be hardcore.<\/strong><\/span> \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>Some involvement with open-source software &#8211; perhaps the opportunity to work on a open-source project? <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>I think so &#8211; They certainly use a predominantly open-source tool chain.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Some kind of cover to hide behind between the end-users and me. <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>I think so.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Able to wear casual clothing. <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Yes.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a new job.
