Essentially, all you have to do is drop it in the correct folder:\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><span class=\"iconTerminal\">cd \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If the <em>truetype\/custom<\/em> directory doesn&#8217;t exist already: <span class=\"iconTerminal\">sudo mkdir truetype<\/span> <span class=\"iconTerminal\">sudo mkdir truetype\/custom<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"iconTerminal\">sudo cp where_you_downloaded_the_new_font\/fontname.ttf \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/truetype\/custom<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"iconTerminal\">sudo chown root.root \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/truetype\/custom\/fontname.ttf<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"iconTerminal\">fc-cache<\/span> &#8211; Otherwise, the font will disappear at the next reboot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The following text was created in the Gimp: It uses 3 <strong>free<\/strong> fonts, the &#8220;B&#8221; is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontex.org\/download\/Heavy-data.ttf\">Heavy Data<\/a>, the &#8220;it&#8221; is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fonts.com\/findfonts\/detail.asp?pid=205310\">Sans Bold<\/a> and the &#8220;volution&#8221; is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontgirl.com\/info\/ballpark.php\">Ballpark<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.tomfotherby.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/fontDemo.png?resize=354%2C93&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"ttf font demo\" width=\"354\" height=\"93\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have a font file with a &#8220;ttf&#8221; extension you can easily install it in Ubuntu (v9.04) and use it in applications such as the Gimp.
